San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama received bad news on Thursday as it was revealed that he will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder.

According to the Mayo Clinic, DVT occurs when there is a blood clot in one or more deep veins. It is typical in the legs, but in Wembanyama’s case, the clot is in his shoulder.

Former NBA forward and 11-time all-star Chris Bosh had blood clots, which forced him to retire after the 2016-17 season. Bosh played his final game on February 9, 2016 and retired at age 33. He initially had clots in his lungs in 2015, and a clot was found in his left leg in 2016.

The Spurs are currently 23-29, two games back of the Phoenix Suns for 10th in the western conference. With a situation like this though, the team takes a backseat and you just hope that the player can make a full recovery.

Wembanyama was averaging 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists, a league-leading 3.6 blocks, and 1.2 steals on 48 percent from the field and 35 percent from downtown this season.
