In Monday’s 12-game NBA slate, the Denver Nuggets defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder by 13 in a rematch of Sunday’s 127-103 Thunder victory, the Los Angeles Lakers lost in Brooklyn in their first game without LeBron James (out 1-2 weeks with a groin injury) and the Memphis Grizzlies, with a 120-118 win over the Phoenix Suns at home, improved to 41-24, with a one game lead on the Houston Rockets for the fourth spot in the Western Conference.
The Nuggets outscored the Thunder 73-54 in the second half, and outshot the Thunder 61%-47% and 56%-40% from three in the comeback victory.
Nikola Jokic (15-for-20) put up 35 points, 18 rebounds, and 8 assists, with Jamal Murray (11-for-22, 9-for-9 from the line) scoring 34 to go along with 6 assists. Peyton Watson was 4-for-4 from downtown for 16 points off the bench.
Lu Dort led the Thunder with 26 points (8-for-14 from downtown) with 4 steals, while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 25 points with 7 assists on 8-for-14 shooting. Isaiah Hartenstein added 20 points and 7 rebounds while Chet Holmgren was just 3-for-11 for 8 points.
Monday’s contest between the two squads wraps up the season series at 2-2. The Nuggets lost on opening night 102-87 but prevailed on November 6 by a count of 124-122. The 53-12 Thunder still maintain a big lead in the conference of 11 games, while the Nuggets are second with a 42-23 mark.
The Nets defeated the Lakers at home by three, 111-108, with Noah Clowney leading the way with 19 points and 5 rebounds (5-for-11, 3-for-8 from 3-point range) off the bench. Keon Johnson and Cam Johnson both scored 18 points on 6-for-10 and 6-for-14 shooting.
Gabe Vincent was the top scorer for the Lakers with 24 points on 6-for-9 from downtown, while Luka Doncic despite registering a triple-double (22 points, 12 assists, 12 rebounds) was just 8-for-26 from the field and 3-for-10 from deep. Dalton Knecht scored 19 points on 8-for-18, while Jordan Goodwin was impressive off the bench with 17 points on 5-for-6 from downtown. The 40-23 Lakers are a game back of the second place Nuggets, while the Nets, 22-42, are the East’s 11th seed. The victory for the Nets ended their 7-game losing skid.
Ja Morant (9-for-13, 29 points, 12 assists) guided the Memphis Grizzlies to a 120-118 home win over the Phoenix Suns. Jay Huff and GG Jackson both scored 14 points while Cam Spencer was 4-for-7 from downtown off the bench for 16 points.
Kevin Durant’s 35 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists (11-for-24, 7-for-9 from downtown) led the Suns, while Devin Booker added 26 points (9-for-21, 3-for-8 from deep) with 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Nick Richards registered a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds. The Suns, 30-35, are 2.5 games back of the Dallas Mavericks for 10th in the conference.
