The Philadelphia 76ers and Joel Embiid have agreed on a three-year, $193 million extension, according to Shams Charania. The maximum extension has a player option for 2028-2029.
Embiid’s total salary for his remaining five years in Philadelphia is now $301 million. In July, the Boston Celtics signed star forward Jayson Tatum to a five-year, $315 million extension.
Embiid, the 2023 NBA MVP, averaged a career-best 34.7 points per game last season, and has career averages of 27.9 points and 11.2 rebounds. The 7-time all-star though has been maligned for his playoff performances, as the 76ers have yet to make a conference final with the big man as their centerpiece.
The team is hoping that changes in 2024-2025, as they brought in Paul George to form what they hope to be a healthy and formidable “Big 3” of Embiid, George, and budding star guard Tyrese Maxey.
