On Wednesday’s 11 game slate, Cade Cunningham’s game-winner sent the Heat to their ninth consecutive loss, Zion Williamson was dominant in leading the New Orleans Pelicans to a road win against the Minnesota Timberwolves, and Sandro Mamukelashvili erupted for 34 points in a history-making night for the 25-year-old against the New York Knicks.

In Miami, Cade Cunningham called glass from the top of the arc to push the Detroit Pistons past the Heat 116-113 in Miami. Cunningham finished with a triple-double of 25 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists (11-for-25, 3-for-4 from 3-point range) as the Pistons, now 39-31, regrouped after trailing 32-22 at the end of one quarter to win quarter two 36-28 and outscore the Heat 28-20 in the fourth. Malik Beasley was 5-for-10 from deep for 16 points, while Jalen Duren scored 15 and pulled down 11 rebounds. Ausur Thompson added 14 points and Tobias Harris 13.

Bam Adebayo’s 30 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists (12-for-24) led the Heat while Tyler Herro put up 29 points on 10-for-20 shooting. Kel’el Ware, a bright spot for Miami in an otherwise up and down season, played a strong game with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks. The Heat have lost nine straight games and at 29-40 are 10th in the Eastern Conference, while the Pistons hold the sixth spot.

Zion Williamson’s 29 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds (12-for-16) led the New Orleans Pelicans past the Minnesota Timberwolves 119-115 from Target Center. Williamson was, as he usually is, relentless in his attack, helping the Pelicans stave off the Wolves late. C.J. McCollum was just 7-for-18 but did have 18 points, while Bruce Brown played well off the bench with 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists on 4-for-7 from downtown. Yves Missi and Kelly Olynyk both scored 13 points.

The Timberwolves were led by Edwards’ 29 points, but the star guard was just 5-for-19 from the field (4-for-10 from 3-point range). Julius Randle was 7-for-10 for 17 points, while Mike Conley put up 16 points on 6-for-8 shooting. While the 19-51 Pelicans are next to last in the Western Conference, the Timberwolves at 40-31 hold the eighth spot.

A career night was had by Spurs’ forward Sandro Mamukelashvili, whose 34 points in just 19 minutes were the most points ever scored by a player in less than 20 minutes of action. The 25-year-old, who is averaging just 5.0 points per game on the season, exploded on Wednesday night in the Spurs’ 120-105 home victory over the New York Knicks. Mamukelashvili made all seven of his 3-point attempts while going 13-for-14 from the field and collecting 9 rebounds. Out of the starting group, Stephon Castle put up 22 points on 8-for-16. Karl-Anthony Towns, with 32 points and 9 rebounds (11-for-21) led the Knicks, with Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby scoring 14 points apiece. The Spurs are 29-39 while the Knicks at 43-25 have a four-game lead on the Indiana Pacers for the Eastern Conference’s three spot.

Bill Chisholm Buys Celtics for $6.1 Billion

23 years ago, the Grousbeck family purchased the Boston Celtics for $360 million.

Today, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Grousbeck family has sold the Celtics to Bill Chisholm of Symphony Technology Group for $6.1 billion.

The sale sets a record for a North American sports team, surpassing the Washington Commanders’ sale of $6.05 billion in July of 2023.

Wyc Grousbeck, the majority owner and governor of the Celtics, was a partner in the venture capital firm Highland Capital Partners for seven years before founding Boston Basketball Partners L.L.C. in 2002 and purchasing the Celtics. The organization won two championships, in 2008 and 2024, under Grousbeck, appearing overall in four NBA Finals series’ (2008, 2010, 2022, 2024) under his ownership.
