10-time NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony will be part of the 2025 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame class, it was revealed Wednesday morning.
Anthony, the 3rd overall pick in the 2003 Draft, won an NCAA championship in 2003 leading the Syracuse Orangemen to the title over the Kansas Jayhawks 81-78. Anthony scored 20 points with 10 rebounds and 7 assists in the game.
With Anthony in 2003-04, the Nuggets underwent a 26-game improvement from the prior season, winning 43 games and making the playoffs before losing to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round in five games. Anthony averaged 21.0 points and 6.1 rebounds on 43% shooting as a rookie, second to James in Rookie of the Year voting.
Anthony’s career-best 28.9 points in 2006-07 coincided with his first all-star season, making All-NBA 3rd team. In 2009, he led the Nuggets to the Western Conference Finals, where they lost in six games to the Los Angeles Lakers.
In February of 2011, Anthony was traded to the New York Knicks, where he would make seven consecutive All-Star games. The 2012-2013 Knicks won 54 games, with Anthony averaging a league-best 28.7 points for his first scoring title and finishing 3rd in Most Valuable Player voting.
After Anthony’s last all-star season of 2016-17, he was dealt to the Oklahoma City Thunder where he played one season, averaging 16.2 points per game. The forward finished his career with a season in Houston, two in Portland, and one with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2021-22,
Anthony left the game and now will be forever immortalized as one of the NBA’s greatest scorers. A career 22.5 point per game scorer with 6.2 rebounds, the forward averaged 24.8 points in his Nugget career and 24.7 as a Knick. Seven times he averaged over 25 points per game, displaying his unique ability as a 3-level scorer who could make threes, score from the midrange and also use his size in the post. Anthony had special footwork and had an excellent face up game, as well.
The 6-time All-NBA performer (2nd team in 2010 and 2013) was a consensus 2003 2nd team All-American and was the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player in 2003 while at Syracuse, and was named to the NBA’s Top 75 team in 2021. He also accumulated three Olympic Gold Medals (2008, 2012, 2016) and his 336 Olympic points were a record, since surpassed by Kevin Durant (518) and LeBron James (358).
Congratulations to Carmelo Anthony, Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame class of 2025.
