Andrew Wiggins will not be playing for Team Canada at the 2024 Paris Olympics next month, according to the Athletic’s Anthony Slater. It is a mutual decision of Wiggins and the Golden State Warriors, who hope to find a trade partner for him this summer. Wiggins played 71 games this past season but dealt with an ankle injury. He averaged 13.2 points on 45 percent shooting in 2023-2024.
Wiggins’ last appearance for his home country was in the 2020 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament. He averaged 21.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in three games.
Team Canada is holding training camp in Toronto from June 28-July 7 before taking on the United States in an exhibition game in Las Vegas on July 10. The training camp roster includes 12 NBA players. There are:
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Jamal Murray
Dillon Brooks
Lu Dort
R.J. Barrett
Trey Lyles
Andrew Nembhard
Kelly Olynyk
Dwight Powell
Oshae Brissett
Nickeil Alexander-Walker
Zach Edey
Edey was drafted ninth to the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft on Wednesday. Even without Wiggins, Canada still will field a very talented team that can medal, along with the likes of Serbia, France, and Germany.
